How to hang and look after a Chromadek sign

Our signs arrive ready to hang, and there is not much to it. Still, a few things are worth knowing before you put a hole in the wall.

They are lighter than they look

Chromadek is steel, which surprises people who expect something heavier. At 270 × 350 mm or 350 × 270 mm, a sign is comfortably within what an ordinary picture hook will carry. A couple of screws does the job just as well if you want it flush and immovable.

Plan the wall before you drill

Every product page gives the size and orientation, so you can lay the arrangement out on paper first. Two things that consistently work: mixing portrait and landscape rather than using all one shape, and lining pieces up on a shared centre line rather than a shared top edge. Signs of different orientations look better sharing a middle than sharing a ceiling.

Where they can go

Because the board is steel, it will not curl or warp the way paper prints and board do. A garage, a workshop or a kitchen is a perfectly reasonable home for one.

We would not make claims about long-term weathering in full sun and rain, because we have not tested that. If you are planning to hang one outdoors and it matters to you, ask us first rather than taking a guess from this page.

Cleaning

The UV print is hard and colour-fast, which is the whole point of curing the ink as it is laid down. Wipe a sign with a soft cloth, dry or slightly damp, and it will look after itself.

The one thing to avoid is abrasives. Scouring pads, cutting compounds and harsh cleaners will scratch any printed surface, and there is no way back from that.

Aprons

Aprons are a different material and a different process. The design is sublimated into premium gabardine rather than sitting on top of it, so ordinary washing will not lift it the way it eventually lifts an ironed-on transfer.

More

The board, the ink and the full size table are covered on how our signs are made. Anything else, the FAQ or a quick message to us will sort it out.
