Garage wall ideas with petroliana and automobilia

A workshop wall is one of the few surfaces in a house where nobody will argue with you about the decorating. It is also easy to get wrong: hang too many signs at the same height and it reads like a shop display rather than a wall with some character.

Start with one anchor

Pick one piece you actually like and build around it. A big brand mark works well for this, a Shell emblem or a Pegasus, because the shape is simple and it carries across the room. Our Shell signs are the largest single brand group we carry, so there is a fair bit to choose from.

Mix the two sizes

We print 270 × 350 mm portrait and 350 × 270 mm landscape. A wall made only of portrait signs at one height looks rigid. Two portraits either side of one landscape, or a landscape above a bench with a portrait at each end, gives it some rhythm. Each product page lists the size, so you can work it out before you order.

Pull from more than one category

Fuel and oil advertising is the backbone, but a wall of nothing but petrol brands gets monotonous. Three collections worth raiding:

Tyre advertising in particular was designed to be read from a distance, which is exactly what you want above a bench. Our Dunlop and tyre signs include the dealer boards and the King of Tyres playing-card artwork.

Road signs as punctuation

An old direction board does something different to an advertising sign: it points somewhere. Dropped in among brand marks it breaks the pattern and gives the eye somewhere to rest.

Hanging them

The board is steel and the pieces are light, so picture hooks or a couple of screws will do. Because it is steel rather than paper or MDF, a garage is a perfectly reasonable place for it. Nothing is going to curl in the heat.

Make it yours

If the workshop has a name, or there is a family business or a particular marque behind the whole collection, we print custom signs to order. See custom orders, or browse the full garage and workshop décor guide.
